Ballistic Shield INSTRUCTOR
Course Description:
Our Law enforcement Ballistic Shield Instructor Course teaches an understanding of the shield from the basics of design and individual operator use through team deployment. Goal of this course is to build instructors who can teach operator level skills with the ballistic shield and serve as Subject Matter Experts for their agencies as it pertains to proper procurement and implementation of the ballistic shield in law enforcement operations. Course material provides tactic and technique options within context of various incident types as well as agency/unit needs. This course trains students at an instructor level intending to build a depth of knowledge that instructors can utilize to build upon their agency, teams, and/or personal capability.
Core components:
Shield design, nomenclature, and ballistics
Hand holds, stance, and movement
weapon manipulation and shooting with a shield
Less Lethal/Arrest Shield Teams and Subject handling
CQB with Shields
Teaching methods and program development
Course outline:
Day 1 - 1st Half: Classroom
Nomenclature, components, ballistics, methods and subject area teaching fundamentals
Day 1 - 2nd Half: Range
Single handed Pistol Marksmanship development, Holds, and stance
Day 2: Range
Reloads, malfunctions, transition options, Shield Team shooting, Less lethal team basics, Officer/citizen down rescue
Day 3: Practical - Interior
Less Lethal/arrest Team deployment, suspect handling, Fundamental CQB with shields, cqb room Clearing exercises

Payable by credit card, check, or money order on the day of the course, or by department PO. If an invoice and/or W-9 are needed, please feel free to ask.
Prerequisites:
Sworn LE or Military
Officers MUST demonstrate the ability to safely function in close proximity to other Officers while manipulating a firearm. Students who demonstrate they are unable to follow fundamental firearm handling safety rules, will be removed from the course.
Required Equipment:
Please be sure to bring the required equipment to the class. Keep in mind that the required equipment is simply the minimum. One of the goals of the course is to make you better at how you operate, please bring the equipment you deploy with in whatever your given assignment is.
- 1 ballistic shield per two students
- If unable to procure a shield, contact instructor prior to course so one can be arranged
- Handgun with 3 magazines and duty type holster
- Marking cartridge/Simunition Handgun or handgun conversion
- Appropriate duty gear for your given assignment/unit
- Range gear - eye and ear protection
• Water - A minimum of a gallon a day is recommended
• Optional: Plate carrier/body armor/helmet/web gear
Ammo:
- 500 rounds for handgun
- 60 rounds of marking cartridge ammunition
NOTE: This course utilizes marking cartridges against stationary (non role player) targets during the final day of the course. If a student or agency is unable to procure a Simunition/UTM handgun or the needed ammo, it can be rented for an additional $50. This is payable while booking through the website or by requesting for the rental during invoice request for department purchase order.
